About the Author
William E. Ellis, Foundation Professor Emeritus at Eastern Kentucky University, is the author of several books, including The Kentucky River and A History of Eastern Kentucky University. In 1999, he received the Governor's Award for his book Robert Worth Bingham and the Southern Mystique. He lives in Richmond, Kentucky.

A Textbook on Kentucky Education

Ok, so how many books are there on the history of education in Kentucky? Not many! In perspective this is #1 of about 4; c2011, 500 pages with bibliography and index. William Ellis builds a historical perspective from colonial days to modern technology delving into the successes, failures, politics, funding and deficiencies that exemplifies the constant argument between local and central controlled education. Read with a liberal filter, there is an obvious tint to the story, but the facts are what the facts are and they are well documented. If you are doing research on Kentucky and/or Education in Kentucky, it is a must read.
